Fishing Reports
Date: Thursday, March 20, 2008
2007, another incredible year on the Kenai Peninsula. Bear Paw Drifters went to the dark side with a new power boat. This opened a new chapter in our business as well as new opportunities for our guests. Steelhead, sea run rainbows, in April and May on the Kasilof saw some amazing fishing. Multi-fish days were a normal occurrence. Kings started slow on the Kasilof but finished with a bang we actually topped a personal best of 21 fish to the boat. Kenai King fishing was slower than last year with a big push of fish in mid August. The silvers came sporadically but after the 20th August they made a mad dash up river. Rainbows were phenomenal in late August until the river froze up in January.
We look forward to 2008 and hope you will all be joining us at Bear Paw Drifterrs
Thank you, Scott, Susi, Maile and Patron

Big Rainbow trout for Chuck
Chuck Young is everything a guide wants in a client. Excited, intrigued and on time every time,-- personally I love the guy. One cool clear evening, not long ago, my wife Susi and I were going out for a short fish. Susi, not wanting to be solo in the boat, calls on Chuck. And almost instantly he appears, complete with waders, rods and all sorts of paraphernalia to chase single minded but elusive Rainbow Trout.
We arrived at a favorite spot on the Kenai River
and began casting and mending our lines. In tune with the task at hand both Susi and Chuck were hooking nice fish.
There is something about the perfect drift, for trout fishermen. The line stretches out to length. The mend is not to big, not to small,l and the speed is, well, perfect.
I guess this can be said for many things, Golf shots, quail rising over pointers, puppies playing with infants.
I also don’t know if any of these things went through Chuck’s mind when his rod bent double and a rainbow streak tried to leave our plane of existence!
But the smile on Chuck’s face, like his drift, was perfect.
